Step 1 of 8
Your role
Being prepared for the birth is key. It will let mum know you’ve got her back and you’ll be the best support act in the building.
Handle everything that isn’t the birth
Mum’s job is the birth. Your job is everything else. You’ll talk to the midwives and doctors so she doesn’t have to break focus. You’ll also manage questions, family, parking, snacks, music and anything else that comes up.
What kind of support does she want?
Some mums want to build the birth plan (birth preferences) together. Others will already have a plan and will want you to learn it. Your first job is to ask mum what she wants during the birth so you know how to support her well.
Plan it together
Research the options and write the plan together.
Learn her plan
Know it well enough to speak up for mum on the day.
The golden rule
The plan is mum’s. If she changes her mind, the new plan is the plan.
What being Kid Ready looks like
Prepared
You’ve done the reading, had the conversations and packed the bags.
Calm
You understand your role in keeping the room feeling calm for mum, especially when things speed up.
Useful
You’ve got the practical stuff covered, snacks, parking and more.
Never asked twice
You’re doing what needs doing (before anyone asks): bag packed, playlist ready, car seat ordered…
